SYNOPSIS : From composer, musician, and philanthropist Peter Buffett comes a warm, wise, and inspirational book that asks, Which will you choose: the path of least resistance or the path of potentially greatest satisfaction? You may think that with a last name like his, Buffett has enjoyed a life of endless privilege. But the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett says that the only real inheritance handed down from his parents was a philosophy: Forge your own path in life. It is a creed that has allowed him to follow his own passions, establish his own identity, and reap his own successes. In Life Is What You Make It, Buffett expounds on the strong set of values given to him by his trusting and broadminded mother, his industrious and talented father, and the many life teachers he has met along the way. Todayโ€™s society, Buffett posits, has begun to replace a work ethic, relishing what you do, with a wealth ethic, honoring the payoff instead of the process. We confuse privilege with material accumulation, character with external validation. Yet, by focusing more on substance and less on reward, we can open doors of opportunity and strive toward a greater sense of fulfillment. In clear and concise terms, Buffett reveals a great truth: Life is random, neither fair nor unfair. From there it becomes easy to recognize the equal dignity and value of every human lifeโ€”our circumstances may vary but our essences do not. We see that our journey in life rarely follows a straight line but is often met with false starts, crises, and blunders. How we push through and persevere in these challenging moments is where we begin to create the life of our dreamsโ€”from discovering our vocations to living out our bliss to giving back to others. Personal and revealing, instructive and intuitive, Life Is What You Make It is about transcending your circumstances, taking up the reins of your destiny, and living your life to the fullest. From the Hardcover edition.

The process takes the form of a virtual house that has many floors. Each floor has several rooms for you to explore. Each room represents an aspect of yourself. As you enter a room, you meet an aspect of yourself. This presents an opportunity to have a conversation about why you are in this room and what it represents to you. After working through the rooms on each floor, an opportunity to break the pattern can be taken. Thereafter, you move on to the next floor. The final floor will be the place where you get to see and understand who you truly are. From here, you will have all the tools and skills to live a more fulfilling lifein mind, body, and spirit.

SYNOPSIS : The 1970s heartthrob who remains just as popular as ever finally reveals all in this 'emotionally raw and startlingly candid autobiography' By the time Donny Osmond's first solo single, 'Puppy Love', hit Number One in the summer of 1972, the 14-year-old was already a veteran of TV and Las Vegas. Part of the hitmaking family The Osmonds, and famed for his duets with sister Marie, with whom he went on to make the hugely popular series The Donny & Marie Show, Donny Osmond was THE teen pin-up of the 1970s. But after punk, the clean-cut approach wasn't so popular, and record companies felt that there would be no interest in the grown man. In this revealingly honest memoir, Donny Osmond reveals how he kept faith, how he battled against a debilitating social phobia and made a hugely successful comeback, not just as a recording artist, but also as a star of stage in a record-breaking musical. He continues to tour regularly and remains hugely popular to his fans around the world. This book shows how he kept on going, and will be an inspirational read to all.

SYNOPSIS : โ€œAn imperative how-to for creativity.โ€ โ€”Nick Offerman Adam Savageโ€”star of Discovery Channelโ€™s Mythbusters and one of the most beloved figures in science and techโ€”shares his golden rules of creativity, from finding inspiration to following through and successfully making your idea a reality. Every Toolโ€™s a Hammer is a chronicle of my life as a maker. Itโ€™s an exploration of making and of my own productive obsessions, but itโ€™s also a permission slip of sorts from me to you. Permission to grab hold of the things youโ€™re interested in, that fascinate you, and to dive deeper into them to see where they lead you. Through stories from forty-plus years of making and molding, building and breakยญing, along with the lessons I learned along the way, this book is meant to be a toolbox of problem solving, complete with a shopโ€™s worth of notes on the tools, techniques, and materials that I use most often. Things like: In Every Tool There Is a Hammerโ€”donโ€™t wait until everything is perfect to begin a project, and if you donโ€™t have the exact right tool for a task, just use whateverโ€™s handy; Increase Your Loose Toleranceโ€”making is messy and filled with screwups, but thatโ€™s okay, as creativity is a path with twists and turns and not a straight line to be found; Use More Cooling Fluidโ€”it prolongs the life of blades and bits, and it prevents tool failure, but beyond that itโ€™s a reminder to slow down and reduce the fricยญtion in your work and relationships; Screw Before You Glueโ€”mechanical fasteners allow you to change and modify a project while glue is forever but sometimes you just need the right glue, so I dig into which ones will do the job with the least harm and best effects. This toolbox also includes lessons from many other incredible makers and creators, including: Jamie Hyneman, Nick Offerman, Pixar director Andrew Stanton, Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro, artist Tom Sachs, and chef Traci Des Jardins. And if everything goes well, we will hopefully save you a few mistakes (and maybe fingers) as well as help you turn your curiosities into creations. I hope this book inspires you to build, make, invent, explore, andโ€”most of allโ€”enjoy the thrills of being a creator.
