📒Gates Of Fire ✍ Steven Pressfield
📝Gates of Fire SYNOPSIS : BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Steven Pressfield's The Profession. The national bestseller! At Thermopylae, a rocky mountain pass in northern Greece, the feared and admired Spartan soldiers stood three hundred strong. Theirs was a suicide mission, to hold the pass against the invading millions of the mighty Persian army. Day after bloody day they withstood the terrible onslaught, buying time for the Greeks to rally their forces. Born into a cult of spiritual courage, physical endurance, and unmatched battle skill, the Spartans would be remembered for the greatest military stand in history--one that would not end until the rocks were awash with blood, leaving only one gravely injured Spartan squire to tell the tale....

📝Gates of Fire Earth SYNOPSIS : Success will destroy elemental magic. Failure condemns this world and the next. Named Guardian of the Elemental Spheres, Lavinia seeks the lost gates to the spirit realm and their ancient guardians. But some of the guardians have left their duties and those that have stayed may prove as dangerous as her enemy, whose wrath threatens the world. To end an ancient punishment inflicted on them by the Goddess for their role in a forgotten war, the Ashanti will conquer this world and that of spirit to gain power over death. Lavinia must close the gates to stop the Ashanti, even though by doing so she risks ending all elemental powers. And the act has consequences greater than the ancient guardians imagine. But one gate has a new guardian as well as the old, and the last time he saw Lavinia, he tried to kill her before she stole his power. And he’s been seeking revenge … Continue this epic fantasy journey begun in book 1 of the Games of Fire trilogy, Spark of Defiance. Friendships are tested as what is sacrificed is more than some are willing to give. Welcome back to the world of Myrrah and meet the Elementals of Fire, Earth, Water, Air, and Spirit who shape it. Pick up book 2 of the Games of Fire trilogy, the Gates of Fire & Earth, today! Q & A Should you read the Rise of the Fifth Order trilogy before reading Games of Fire? You should definitely read Spark of Defiance, book 1 of Games of Fire, before reading the Gates of Fire & Earth. I did my best to lightly explain some of the pertinent events from the first trilogy, the Rise of the Fifth Order, in this new epic fantasy trilogy, Games of Fire so that you could start with Spark of Defiance. But a few readers have said they got a lot more depth for having read the Rise of the Fifth Order first. They suggest you start there! It is certainly a great introduction to the world of Myrrah and the characters by starting with Born of Water, which is free to pick up. But I won’t say you absolutely have to. Is Games of Fire a continuation of the Rise of the Fifth Order trilogy? The Games of Fire and the Rise of the Fifth Order trilogies are related in that they are set in the same world of Myrrah, utilize many of the same characters, and are full of elemental magic. Games of Fire begins with Spark of Defiance, which is set six months after the final book, Spirit of Life, of the Rise of the Fifth Order trilogy ends. New problems have developed, so the Games of Fire story line is stand alone trilogy with the same heroes from the first story. However a few events that happened in the Rise of the Fifth Order are the cause of the new challenges rising in Games of Fire. So the two series are linked, but each consists of a different set of adventures and issues to solve. I’ve only ever heard of four elements, but these books have five even though it is based on elemental magic? This is true! Five elements, air, earth, water, fire, and spirit is actually an eastern philosophy. I wish I could say I invented it. Lol. The difference really comes with the element of earth. Only dead things and soil can be controlled by an Earth Elemental, while plants or anything living (like the ability to change into another living creature) is something that a Spirit Elemental controls. Spirit Elementals are also able to control the other four elements, at least to some degree. Part of the discovery in the Rise of the Fifth Order series is that the ability to control one element might indicate latent gifts in any element. However, it is always difficult to learn to control the element opposing your own. So a Water Elemental might learn to control fire, but only with difficulty! AND a few of the heroes have discovered that if you can learn to control fire, earth, air, and water then no matter what element you are born with, you can unlock some of the gifts of spirit.
📒Beyond The Gates Of Fire ✍ Christopher Anthony Matthew
📝Beyond the Gates of Fire SYNOPSIS : The Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC is one of the most famous battles in history. The heroism of the 300 Spartans who opted to remain behind to face the full might of the Persian host while their Greek allies made good their escape has become the stuff of legend. The story still inspires novelists and film-makers today (Frank Miller's fanciful 300 was a huge hit in 2007 and the film rights to Steven Pressfield's more historical novel Gates of Fire were bought by George Clooney, the film expected to finally surface in 2011 or 2012). But what is the truth behind the legends and why was this bloody defeat immediately accorded a halo of glory that has endured for nearly two-and-a-half millennia? Beyond the Gates of Fire brings together experts on the classical period from Australia, New Zealand and the United States to take a fresh look at various aspects of the battle. A substantial introductory section by the editors outlines the background to the conflict as well as the arms, armor and fighting styles of the opposing sides. The following chapters (9 of them) then discuss such questions as whether the defense of the pass really was a suicide mission; the exact topography of the battlefield itself in 480 BC, using the latest geological research and core samples; the impact of the battle on the Greek psyche; commemoration of the war dead; the impact of the original battle on the conduct of later battles in the pass, right up to the German invasion of 1941. For the classical scholar or the general reader whose interest has been piqued by the popular books and films, this book is sure to shed refreshing new light on the most famous last stand in history. 📒Leonidas At The Gates Of Fire ✍ Costas Komborozos
📝Leonidas at the Gates of Fire SYNOPSIS : "The Spartan king smiled grimly at a steady human river overflowing, observing its ominous glare as it darkly descended. The Immortals flowed ceaselessly before his eyes. Leonidas saw his life's days lunging at him like a spear. The Spartans stood undaunted and untrammeled against the Persian multitudes, flanked by time and timeless necessity. The moon glowed silver above the scene of imminent bloodshed. He shouted with a voice near-silent and near-seismic in its depth. Fists of fury came from all sides, and he brushed aside the looming shadow of quick, undignified defeat. Leonidas' mind soared above a factory of fear, letting his memory resume the endless toil of telling his life's tale. But he felt it. The end was drawing near. The Immortals rushed at him as his memory continued to wade the abysmal calm of battle. Everything unfolded in slow motion around him, and memory only allowed half-voices to break through the bruised silence. The Persian hordes moved in a stream unrelenting, their king, Xerxes, casting a wide, fleeting gaze that, to the Spartan king, remained beyond shattering. For a moment, Leonidas' eyes moved swiftly upon the ghostly stream, becoming interlocked with Xerxes' darkly smiling eyes. In that moment, memory retreated into its own separate stream, flowing back into blind caverns now half-white with longing. The soundless dance of the Spartan king's memory ceased, ceding its space to the valiant effort of briefly bringing about undying death's repose. The near-silence of memory once again yielded to blood-filled sounds. The Spartans felt arrows of fear fall in an inconsequential torrent, for their hearts remained fierce and unbroken in death's steady approach. They fought off the fear, shielding themselves with their courage. Leonidas shouted as his scarred limbs collided with a small, whirling ocean of blades. The Spartans fall one by one, a cloud of dark fury moving upon the once-bloodless sea of quiet." This novel is an expanded version of the novel Lion at the Hot Gates.
📒Through Gates Of Fire ✍ Martin Bell
📝Through Gates of Fire SYNOPSIS : What kind of world are we making for ourselves? Martin Bell uses his personal experiences as a reporter of eleven wars (to date), and independent MP, to write an impassioned, heartfelt and coruscating call to arms. The three central theses are the way in which war, politics and journalism have changed beyond all recognition in the past thirty years. As Kofi Annan said, we have entered the 21st century 'through gates of fire' and Bell pleads with poetic conviction for a stark reappraisal of the world we're creating for ourselves. He has had first-hand experience in Afghanistan, Malawi, Rwanda, Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and the first Gulf War. He has been an independent MP and testified at The Hague. In Bell's words, 'this is a world in which it isn't even safe to be dead'. In the first World War 90% of casualties were soldiers; in recent wars 90% of casualties are civilians. The advent of 'live' conflict coverage on CNN has led to television being used as just another propaganda tool where the truth is difficult to find. Such facts can be gleaned from the saturation coverage we're experiencing of the current Gulf War, but Martin Bell is keen to place this in a wider context and warn of

📒Rethinking Hell ✍ Christopher M. Date
📝Rethinking Hell SYNOPSIS : Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the second death--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.
📒The Gates Of Jerusalem ✍ Ernest Childs, W.
📝The Gates of Jerusalem SYNOPSIS : The Bible is clear in its teaching that God's purpose in salvation is more than just the forgiveness of sins and a home in heaven at the end of this life. And yet the majority of God's people do not enjoy the blessings, joy, victory and fruitfulness which God intends for them to have in this life. The real need of the hour is for the people of God to realize the purpose for which God saved them and to begin to live in the reality of that purpose. This book was written with the prayer and desire that our blessed Lord will use it for His glory to enable His people to enjoy all that He has provided for them. Dr. Ernest Childs was saved at the age of 29. Soon after his conversion he went to work for his Lord, preaching and teaching the Word in young people's meetings, rescue missions and anywhere else he could get an audience. He has spent over twenty years in the pastorate, founding two churches and pastoring one other. During that time he has authored a number of books, booklets and tracts, established three home mission boards, carried on a weekly radio broadcast for ten years; founded a Christian school and an evening Bible Institute, and preached in most of the states east of the Mississippi in Bible Conferences and revivals. He has served at Ambassador Baptist College since its founding as Professor of Bible and Systematic Theology. In addition to his teaching duties, he also served as Academic Dean for eight years.
